Over on our NonToxicated Facebook group, there’s so many discussions and recommendations for all types of alcohol replacements and alternatives….make sure you’re a member!
One of the things we know from our NonToxicated members is that when they’re in alcohol free mode, special occasions can be a bit of a tricky one to get through.
But fear not we made it a priority to test some of the alcohol free fizz out there…and as pink is our favourite we ordered a few bottles to put to the test at NonToxicated HQ. Of course, our taste testers, Lisa & Leanne weren’t complaining!
Up for the taste testing were:
As one of our tasters was a regular alcohol free pink fizz consumer we decided to do a blind tasting so we were presented with our drinks in three different styles of champagne glass – we made our tasting notes – then the brands were revealed!!
Glass Number 1 – Champagne Coupe
This one had a fruity smell and was nice and bubbly when poured from the bottle
It was a pale salmon colour
The flavour was subtle bur very drinkable
Slight vinegar notes
Bubbles seemed to dissipate quickly
Sweetest of the three
Glass Number 2 – Heart Flute
Authentic, fruity smell
Had more depth
Dryer flavour – left a nice dryness on the tongue but still had a hint of fruit flavours
Apricot pink colour
No aftertaste
Nice amount of bubbles – retained bubbles in the mouth
A “lighter” drink
Glass Number 3 – Crystal Stemmed Flute
Lovely, floral smell
Strong tasting
Was sharp / acidic tasting
Little fruit flavour coming through
Very dry – no discernible aftertaste
Deeper rose pink colour
The taste seemed at odds with the smell -was expecting a sweeter flavour
A “heavier” drink
If you’ve tried any of the alcohol free pink fizzes mentioned have you worked out which glass was which?
The Results
After much contemplation the results were in….
One of our tasters preferred Number 1 which was Fizzero and the other decided that Number 2 was her favourite which was Belle & Co, but it really was a close call.
Number 3 was the Nosecco which we must add people in the NonToxicated Facebook Group regularly recommend but everyone’s palates are different. We think the Nosecco would be a good match for someone that prefers a drier tasting fizz.
Interestingly, Lisa had a bottle of Nosecco chilling in the fridge a few days later so decided to have a couple of glasses and found it was perfectly drinkable!
Authentic, fruity smell...left a nice dryness on the tongue but still had a hint of fruit flavours.
NonToxicated's Comments :
Pictures of Belle & Co are regularly posted on "Friday Fizz" nights in the NonToxicated Facebook Group - both the pink and white varieties! We love it as it's a light, bubbly drink, a subtle sweetness with a hint of sherbet. The salmon pink colour is gorgeous and it holds it's fizz well. Some of the AF fizz can be sickly sweet but this one isn't! Don't be put off by the fact it's based on a sparkling tea - it actually provides a brilliant base and doesn't have the aftertaste that you sometimes get with de-alcoholised wines. It's also really reasonable priced so a great choice for a midweek treat!
